The American Congress has not been supportive of the Iran Deal and pursuing good relations in the MENA has not been a high priority on their to-do list. On August 12, 2015 Congress almost silently passed the dangerously racist Visa Waiver Program Improvement and Terrorist Travel Prevention Act of 2015, also referred to as the HR158 bill.
It is already difficult enough for reporters, social workers, human rights investigators, academics and experts to travel to Iran, Syria, Sudan and Iraq, and then return to the U.S. without experiencing issues. This bill will make it even more difficult for international diplomacy, research, and humanitarian aid to be carried out in the aforementioned countries, as well as the region in general.
